Artful Memories
Clicking on each image will provide a larger picture and a description. The pieces in this gallery were made with clothing from a loved one. I worked directly with the customer to design meaningful pieces based on favorite scenes or activities.
Going to the Fair
This was for my granddaughter, Yolanda.
Her memory of Grandpa is that he always took them downtown in Old Orchard Beach, or as she called it going to the fair.
My grandson, Isaac, loved to hunt with his grandpa. Isaac really misses his grandpa who died in 2012. This piece is for Isaac and is made from grandpa’s shirts and wool hunting pants.
At the Beach
Customer and her mom loved to go to the beach. I made the sky and water from a smocked nightgown. Chairs, beach umbrella, birds and sun were all cut out from an embellished sweatshirt.
Wilma Bingo
Mom’s name was Wilma and she loved to play Bingo and the slot machines. I used family pictures and favorite recipes as the bingo markers; included her dates of birth and death; also included embellishments from her clothes for the slot machine references.
Flower Vase
Second commission made for the customer’s aunt. Vase from a bathrobe; flowers from tee shirts and blouses; borders from a blouse; embellishments all from the clothing.
A Touch of Zen
For a more modern home with spare furnishings.
Flowers were all made from a lace blouse; table from a pair of khakis.
Window Box
The family had a camp in New Hampshire.
This window box made me think of what would be at their camp.
Flowers and leaves were from tee shirts; side of house and window box from pants
with some added paint for enhancement.
Vase of Flowers
Second piece in memory series from mom’s clothing. Vase was for a family member.
Flowers were from tee shirts, pajamas and a blouse; vase from a vest.
Daughter said she got goose bumps when she looked at it and recognized various articles of clothing.
Pop of Red
Picture on the left shows the pile of clothes I started with for this piece.
The customer wanted this first piece for her father from her mom’s clothes. He chose the red flower.
Piece included sparkley insets from old tee shirts.

Final piece is about 12″x12″.
