Poppy

I love the poppies in the spring! Even though they aren’t around too long, they are such a bright spot in the spring. I used a close-up shot of a poppy in my garden. The shading is done with a wide variety of fabrics and lots of thread painting. The leaves were also extended into the borders with thread painting.

Tumbling Lilies

The beautiful lilies are made from hand-dyed/painted fabric. All are embellished with yarn stamens and beads. They are placed on an irregularly pieced background. The final lily is slightly falling off the edge. During 2009 this piece won awards in four different shows.
Won Third Place at Saco Bay Artists Show in August 2012.
Black and White Hosta

These hosta leaves were done in response to a black and white challenge from the Fiberarts Council of California. The color photo of the hosta leaves had great lights and darks and shadows which I replicated using shades of black and white. This quilt toured with the “My World in Black and White Revisited” exhibit in 2009. Exhibit catalog available at www.lulu.com.

I love sunflowers and looking at Van Gogh’s paintings certainly inspires me. The hand-dyed/hand-painted fabrics along with the quilting add a painterly feel to this piece. Includes extensive thread painting. Mat is linen and it is framed. This won first place at the 2004 Maine Women in the Arts annual awards show. Sunflowers was part of a special exhibit with students of Marilyn Belford at Images 2006, as well as an invitational exhibit at the Earlville Opera House, NY, August 2007.
Tigers and Petunias

Prominent tiger lilies complemented by colorful petunias. All the flowers are painted with watercolor pastel crayons and placed on a hand-dyed shibori background. The lilies have yarn stamens with beaded centers and the petunias have beaded centers.
